An August Review: Adventures in Ithaca, NY

Ithaca is one of my favorite places to visit, filled with gorgeous gorges, fantastic hiking spots, and a vibrant community. This year, we visited on a random Friday in August. This day trip was filled with a few of my favorite places.

Taughannock Falls

We started off the morning at Taughannock Falls overlook, which by the time we arrived at 10 AM, it was already packed. Note to self: Get there early if you’d like to avoid crowds! Regardless after waiting we were able to capture amazing photos and videos of the overlook. We drove down to actually walk to the falls. The walk is about 1 mile and it is filled with shade, so perfect on a hot summer day! Once you reach the end of the hike, there are the absolutely gorgeous falls. Now’s time for a photo opportunity!

South Hill Cider

Now this cidery is one of my favorites. With such an exquisite variety of ciders and a view to die for, I cannot complain. Their food is also delicious, farm-to-table food! They are also open 5 days a week, Thursday to Monday. If you’re also looking to hike after eating and drinking, Buttermilk Falls is just down the road. Make sure to stay hydrated!

Artist’s Market

Every year, the Ithaca, NY Community Arts Partnership hosts a local Artist’s Market. This year was the first year I actually went to see it and I absolutely loved it. A variety of artists showcase their creativity, arts, and crafts. I also was able to meet someone where I saw their work at Rochester’s Memorial Art Gallery (Yen Ospina). And yes, I did fan girl. If you’re a creative, curator, or art enthusiast, definitely make sure to visit this annual art event! It typically takes place in the 2nd week of August.

Where to Next?

Overall, I’ve enjoyed the day's adventures in Ithaca, NY. Now looking forward to what adventures the autumn season has to offer!
